Thomas E Bump, MD, FACC

Cardiology, Electrophysiology

Dr. Bump is one of the co-founders of Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology in Chicago where he specializes in treating heart rhythm disorders. Dr. Bump’s patients benefit from his four decades of experience in cardiology. They trust their doctor for his willingness to listen to their concerns and put together teams of specialists to treat all of their health needs.

While working on his fellowship, Dr. Bump also completed specialized training in clinical cardiac electrophysiology under Dr. Kenneth Rosen. Following his training, he joined the faculty at the University of Chicago where he established its clinical electrophysiology program and joined Dr. Robert Arzbaecher as the co-investigator of NIH-funded research into device-based detection and treatment of arrhythmias.

Together with Dr. A. Tom Petropulos, Dr. Bump co-founded Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology, where he has delivered compassionate healthcare to patients from Illinois and Indiana since 1992. While he provides comprehensive cardiac care, his clinical interests focus on atrial fibrillation, ablations, defibrillator management, and pacemaker insertion and maintenance, including implantable cardioverter defibrillators.  When he’s not treating patients, Dr. Bump stays active in international medical education, especially in Vietnam.

John H Burke, MD, FACC, FHRS

Cardiology, Electrophysiology

Dr. Burke specializes in heart rhythm disorders at Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology in Chicago, Illinois. He welcomes patients with cardiac disease at the group’s Oak Lawn and Palos Heights offices, where his areas of expertise include transesophageal echocardiograms, ablations, defibrillator management, and pacemaker insertion and maintenance, including implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.

Dr. Burke completed his undergraduate degree and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chicago, where he graduated with honors and was elected to two honor societies: Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha.

After completing his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago, he received his fellowship training in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, he was awarded a junior research fellowship from the Chicago Heart Association. Since entering private practice, he has published research on gender differences in heart rate and the QT interval and presented abstracts at national cardiology meetings.

Nouri Al Khaled, MD, FACC

Dr. Al-Khaled brings diverse expertise in clinical and interventional cardiology to Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology in Oak Lawn and Palos Heights, Illinois, where he provides the highest quality of care to patients with coronary artery disease, anginal chest pain, and peripheral vascular disease. His cardiac care services include multiple therapies to treat blocked arteries, including angioplasty and stenting, as well as carotid artery stenting, whether the blockage has caused a stroke or remains asymptomatic.

Dr. Al-Khaled performs the newest interventions for treating renal artery stenosis, as well as the SilverHawk™ plaque excision system for shaving away plaque in patients with peripheral artery disease. He’s also certified in transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR, which is cutting-edge technology for replacing the aortic valve without opening the chest cavity.

Dr. Al-Khaled graduated with honors from Damascus University School of Medicine, then finished his residency in Internal Medicine – Pediatrics at Henry Ford Hospital. He completed fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Henry Ford Heart and Vascular Institute in Detroit, Michigan.

As part of his private practice, Dr. Al-Khaled also specializes in cardiac catheterization, transesophageal echocardiograms, and Holter monitoring.

 He is also an attending cardiologist at Advocate Christ Medical Center and stays active in his field by presenting at national meetings and publishing research in peer-reviewed journals. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Al-Khaled is an assistant clinical professor of medicine at University of Illinois College of Medicine.

William H Spear, MD, FACC, FHRS

Dr. Spear offers comprehensive cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology services at Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology offices in Oak Lawn and Palos Heights, Illinois. He treats patients with heart rhythm disorders, where his commitment to providing the best quality of care is evident through his caring interaction, gentle examinations, and thorough patient education. While he treats diverse cardiac disorders, his interests are in atrial fibrillation and ablation of complex arrhythmias.

Dr. Spear completed his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University and received his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Miami Leonard Miller School of Medicine. After completing his residency training in internal medicine at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital, he completed fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Loyola University Medical Center.

Over the years, Dr. Spear received multiple honors for academic and leadership achievements in medicine, presented at national meetings, and published research in peer reviewed journals. He continues to stay actively engaged in research to make ablation procedures safer for patients by using robotics, reducing radiation exposure, and shortening procedure times.

He serves as the medical director of the Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Program at Advocate Christ Medical Center and is on the clinical faculty at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Spear proudly leads one of the highest volume robotic ablation centers in the United States. Patients in the Chicago region benefit from this expertise, as robotic ablation allows for more precise and stable treatment of atrial fibrillation and other forms of arrhythmia.

Chadi Nouneh, MD, FACC, FSCAI

Dr. Nouneh specializes in interventional cardiology at Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Patients facing cardiovascular disease in the Chicago region can regain optimal health thanks to his expertise using catheter-based treatments for complex vascular disease, such as coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease.

He looks forward to caring for people with cardiovascular disorders, promising individualized care and reaching out to be sure family members know how to support their loved ones receiving treatment.

Dr. Nouneh received his undergraduate training and attended medical school at Damascus University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he served as Chief Medical Resident, and remained at the same institution to finish his residency training. He served one year as a research fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, then completed fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Since then, he has published multiple research articles and presented at national conferences.

Ali R Zaidi, MD

Cardiology & Imaging

Dr. Zaidi is a clinical cardiologist at Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Patients in the Chicago region appreciate his focus on preventive cardiovascular care and his dedication to teaching them how to avoid heart problems through diet, exercise, and control of blood pressure and cholesterol. Dr. Zaidi specializes in consultative and diagnostic cardiology, as well as congestive heart failure and cardiac imaging.

Dr. Zaidi grew up in London, England, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cambridge. His training in internal medicine began at the University of Cambridge Hospital, then he pursued training in critical care medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London.

After relocating to the United States, Dr. Zaidi completed his fellowship training in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Throughout his training, he won numerous scholarships and teaching accolades.

When he’s not treating patients, Dr. Zaidi serves as the Medical Director for Cardiac Rehabilitation at High Tech Medical Park – Advocate Health Care, and has published articles in peer-reviewed journals. His free time is devoted to enjoying life with his wife and three children.

Wassim Ballany, MD

Cardiology, Electrophysiology

Dr. Ballany is a specialist in cardiac electrophysiology at Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology. He can be found in the Oak Lawn, Palos Heights Illinois offices. He specializes in treating patients with heart rhythm disorders and perform variety of procedures including pacemakers and defibrillators  and catheter ablation of rhythm disorders including atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Ballany received his Medical Doctor degree from the University of Aleppo, School of Medicine, in Aleppo, Syria, then completed a residency in clinical pharmacology at the University of Aleppo – Aleppo University Hospital. He finished residency training in internal medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, during which time he served as the Chief Resident in the Internal Medicine Department of the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center.
 

Dr. Ballany completed a cardiology fellowship at the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. From there he relocated to Milwaukee, where he completed an electrophysiology fellowship and an advanced electrophysiology fellowship at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center. He served as Chief Fellow during his advanced electrophysiology training.
 

He has received several honors and awards, including being ranked in the top 1% of his class at the University of Aleppo Medical School and Resident/Fellow of the Month at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center. When he’s not seeing patients, conducting cardiovascular research, or presenting scientific research at professional meetings, Dr. Ballany spends time watching sports, exploring the restaurants in the Chicago area, and traveling to new destinations.

Luay Rifai, MD, FACC

Cardiology, Heart Failure & Imaging

Dr. Rifai provides comprehensive cardiology services at Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology in Oak Lawn, and Palos Heights, Illinois, where patients benefit from his expertise in cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Luay Rifai completed undergraduate training and medical school at the University of Jordan - Faculty of Medicine, and moved to the United States where he joined as cardiology research scholar in Emory University - Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He then commenced his internship and training in internal medicine in the University of Illinois at Chicago/Christ Medical Center. He also enrolled in an advanced heart failure and transplant fellowship at Christ Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease in Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.
 

In addition to having participated in several multi-center studies, he co-authored multiple publications in well-respected peer reviewed journals, presented research at various national conferences, and received research and academic awards from cardiovascular societies. Dr. Rifai specializes in consultative clinical and diagnostic cardiology and has an interest in preventive cardiology, congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, vascular imaging including cardiac nuclear stress tests, carotid, arterial and renal imaging.

 

When he’s not focused on his patients, Dr. Rifai spends time as a professional electric guitarist and instrumental composer (www.LuayRifai.com).

Ibrahim Kassas, MD, FACC, FSCAI

Dr. Kassas joined Consultants in Cardiology & Electrophysiology July 15, 2019. He is an Interventional Cardiologist and Heart Valve Specialist. He is Board-Certified in ABIM-Internal Medicine, ABIM- Cardiovascular Diseases, ABIM Interventional Cardiology, NBE-Echocardiography, CBCCT-Cardiac CT, CBNC-Nuclear Cardiology, RPVI-Vascular interpretation,and ABVM-Endovascular Medicine. After earning his M.D. Degree with Excellence from the University Of Aleppo, he trained in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, then Interventional Cardiology at New York University, followed by an Advanced Interventional Cardiology and Structural Heart Disease Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts and UMass Memorial Medical Center. 

Dr. Kassas specializes in treating patients with coronary artery and peripheral vascular diseases, he is also subspecialized in treating patients with heart valve diseases using minimally invasive, non-surgical technologies to replace or repair valves without the need for open-heart surgery. He is proficient in performing advanced structural heart interventions (TAVR, TMVR, MitraClip, Watchman LAA Occluder Device, PFO/ASD Closures). 

 

He received multiple research awards including the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Best case presentation at the Fellows Summit in April 2018, American College of Cardiology (ACC): Interventional Cardiology and the Year in Review: Highlighted Original Research in March 2017, CRT 2017 Fellows Scholarship Travel Award, Recognized Fellows Original Research Presentation at the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Cardiology in December 2016.

He served as the Chapter Engagement Editorial Fellow for American College of Cardiology in 2017-2018. He is a reviewer at Circulation and Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions(CCI) Journals. He is recurrent faculty in many national and international meetings including ACC, CRT, SCAI, and TCT. He is a Fellow of American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI). He is the leading author in multiple scientific manuscripts in major cardiology journals.

Hussam Watti, MD

Dr. Watti specializes in Interventional Cardiology, diagnosing, managing and preventing conditions and diseases of the heart and cardiovascular system. In addition to managing a wide range of cardiovascular diseases, his areas of interest include coronary artery disease, complex coronary artery interventions, acute cardiogenic shock, peripheral artery disease, and pulmonary embolism. 
 

He is well known in providing excellent medical service and has been awarded the Outstanding Commitment to Providing Superior Patient Care Award during his time in fellowship. He is also the recipient of the George L. Tully award for demonstrating integrity, compassion and dedication to excellence in patient care and education as well as commitment to student and resident teaching at highest level of quality. 
 

Dr. Watti graduated from Medical School with honors at the top of his class from the University of Aleppo Faculty of Medicine and maintained a rank in the top five medical students for six consecutive years.  After receiving his Doctor of Medicine, he went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency training at Tufts University's St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He then completed fellowships in General Cardiology at Ochsner Louisiana State University Health and Interventional Cardiology at Tufts University's St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He is the recipient of many awards and scholarships in both Syria and the United States.

 

Dr. Watti has also conducted research in the field of Cardiovascular diseases over the years leading to several publications in well-respected peer reviewed journals and has presented in national conferences. He is highly dedicated in establishing comprehensive patient care. Dr. Watti holds board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, Nuclear Medicine.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family,outdoor activities and traveling.

Mohammad Tarek Kabbany, MD

Dr. Tarek Kabbany is an accomplished Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist, specializing in a range of cardiovascular conditions. His practice focus areas encompass expertise in Cardiac Amyloid, Cardiac Sarcoidosis, Cardiomyopathy, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction, Heart Transplantation, and Ventricular Assist Devices. With a comprehensive educational background, Dr. Kabbany earned his MD from the University of Aleppo Faculty of Medicine in 2011 and completed his residency at MedStar Health/Georgetown-Washington Hospital Center in 2015. He then pursued fellowships at both MedStar Health/Georgetown-Washington Hospital Center and McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Dr. Kabbany is fluent in Arabic and holds multiple board certifications, including the American Board of Internal Medicine certifications in Internal Medicine, Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Disease.

Adedotun "Tony" Ogunsua, MD

Dr. Adedotun Ogunsua is highly experienced cardiology specialist with over 17 years in the medical field. He specializes in Interventional Cardiac Procedures. Dr. Ogunsua completed his medical education at the University of Ibadan College of Medicine in 2005 and received further training, including a residency in Internal Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School and a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Ogunsua is a valuable asset to the healthcare community.

Bahij Kreidieh, MD

Dr. Kreidieh is a cardiologist and clinical cardiac electrophysiologist. He is subspecialized in the management of abnormal heart rhythms which include SVT, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia and others. He also implants pacemakers, both leadless and traditional, as well as defibrillator systems, both the subcutaneous and transvenous versions. He has a special interest in left atrial appendage occlusion including the Watchman and Amulet devices to prevent strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation. In the ablation of atrial fibrillation, he offers ablation with all available energy sources including radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation and the newest technology on the market, pulsed field ablation. He is also trained in alcohol ablation for uniquely difficult arrhythmias including vein of marshal alcohol ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation.
 

Dr. Kreidieh completed his cardiac electrophysiology training at Harvard Medical School: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a world renowned center specialized in complex ablation including the ablation of ventricular tachycardia, a dangerous heart rhythm that causes cardiac arrest. Prior, he completed his cardiovascular disease fellowship at Lankenau Medical Center where he took special interest in the study of cardiac imaging including echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. He completed his Internal Medicine training at the University of Miami/JFK Medical Center and attended medical school and undergraduate studies in Lebanon at the American University of Beirut.
 

Dr. Kreidieh is board eligible in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, and American Board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Cardiac Computed Tomography and Nuclear Cardiology.
 

Dr. Kreidieh has a special interest in cardiovascular research and has completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in Houston Methodist: Debakey Heart and Vascular Center with one of the world’s leading experts in the field of Electrophysiology, Dr. Miguel Valderrabano. Dr. Kreidieh has authored over 40 publications including journal articles in top cardiology journals, abstracts and oral presentations at national and international electrophysiology meetings and a book chapter on cardiac arrhythmias.
